X — Y —

Allow motion access to measure the tilt of your phone.

How do I use the spirit level?

Tap Enable level, allow motion access, and place your phone screen facing up on the surface. The bubble moves toward the center as the surface becomes level. X and Y show tilt in both directions.

The spirit level with the bubble just off centre, reading 2.3 degrees across and 1.4 degrees front to back.
The bubble moves to the middle as the surface comes level.

How do I calibrate it?

Place the phone on a known level surface and tap Set zero. This makes that position your reference. Reset calibration returns to the sensor’s original reference. A raised camera or uneven phone case can affect the result.

Do I need a phone?

Yes. The level reads your device’s motion sensors, which a desktop computer does not have. On a phone or tablet, the green indicator means both measured axes are within 0.5° of the current reference.

A LITTLE GUIDANCE

Find level.

  1. Enable the level.

Allow motion access, then lay your phone screen up on the surface.

  2. Watch the bubble.

It moves to the centre as the surface becomes level. X and Y show both directions.

  3. Pick a view.

The round bubble reads both directions at once; the vial reads side to side, like a spirit level laid on a shelf.

  4. Set your own zero.

On a surface you know is level, tap Set zero to make that position the reference.

A raised camera or an uneven case can shift the reading. The indicator turns green when both axes are within 0.5° of the current reference.
